Been gone for so long...New Year Updates
I haven’t posted on tumblr in a long time… The only reason I found my way back here is because I saw a friend’s posts on Facebook. It’s January 2nd and I’m just sitting here thinking about resolutions. The thing is, I usually make goals at the beginning of each school year, not the actual new year. But with college, a new semester really is a fresh start with all new...

I have these moments...
where I walk around campus with a backpack that weighs about 25 pounds (YAY ORGO) and think wow…I’m just so damn lucky to be here. :)  I also love walking into Perkins (the upperclassmen library on West campus). Lilly is nice too but it’s so COLD. Air conditioning on steroids. This library is the perfect temperature and has that perfect library smell.  Headed to class now...

jayparkinsonmd: Every day, according to the World Health Organization, approximately 150,000 people die around the world. The U.S. government’s National Counterterrorism Center calculates that Islamist terrorism claims fewer than 50 lives per day — fewer than 10 per day outside Iraq, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. By way of comparison, approximately 1,500 people die each day from civilian violence,...

Are Republicans at war with reality? →
inothernews: wilwheaton: So here’s what I learned watching Thursday night’s Republican debate: States’ rights should rule the day, unless you’re gay. Small government is the rule unless a rapist impregnates his victim. Loyalty oaths should be the new normal. Ten-to-one spending cuts to tax increases is an ideologically unacceptable compromise. And refusing to raise the debt ceiling is a...

What I don't understand about politics
There’s a lot. But one thing: why do people want to elect those who look like ‘the average Joe’? The average American doesn’t have a clue how to fix all these problems. Personally, I’d rather have an elitist or someone who looks a whole lot smarter than me running the country. [this is in response to a Newsweek article “The Casual Friday Campaign.”

I'm a Numbers Girl
I’m a numbers girl and I intend to find out: who are the “wealthy people” constantly referenced when bloggers/news outlets say “the wealthy are paying the lowest taxes in ___ years” and are being “unfairly rewarded” when they really aren’t “job creators.” What level of income qualifies??  I never see a number with the words.

I need something...
Alright after one whole day of having nothing to do (besides waking up at 12 and writing thank you notes for 3 hours…) I’m already a little bored. India I had very little control of my time and I was OK with that - a complete mental vacation and family time - and I caught up with my reading, 12 novels. The past couple weeks I’ve been grad party prepping and organizing my photo...

Back after an absence
I stopped posting on tumblr while I was in India and then didn’t have much time to post the past two weeks. Hard to believe how fast time has gone.  Rambling thoughts lie ahead:  Thinking about what I want to do in college. I feel like the interests will evolve out of connections and coursework more so than they did in high school.  I really don’t want to be one of those people who...

What's really out there anyways
I remember waking up a few times in middle school and thinking “is there really all that’s out there? is this life? what is out there? what if this is all there ever will be? what exactly is my life about? Not exactly an existential crisis, just questioning whether life had meaning beyond what I could see. My life seemed too simple, too insignificant. I think as I’ve gotten...

Senior, no longer?
Today’s the day that the juniors become Seniors. Where does that leave us? I definitely don’t identify as a college student yet, but I’m not a senior anymore? How can that be. I know I should feel enthusiastic and all excited today but really I just feel kind of empty. I should get more sleep. Senior Breakfast was nice. It’s hard to believe that in a couple days I wont see...
